Engaging the Wonder Births team was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life.

My husband and I had heard soooo many birth horror stories, so many “just you waits”— I was honestly terrified to give birth. I felt overwhelmed and clueless and just afraid that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Now, our birth story is one of my favourite things to remember.

The Wonder Births team changed EVERYTHING for us. They gave us information that empowered us to have the birth we wanted to have, taught us ways to prepare, recommended us to people who would support our goals, our doula Gem was hands on with us from beginning all the way to 8-weeks postpartum (which is such an incredible resource—my breastfeeding journey has been unbelievably easy because of Gem!!).

They are so professional but end up feeling like family. I’m beyond thankful that we had Gem walk through this season with us! We could not have done it without her.

I could not recommend Wonder Births enough. Just get the doula. 1000/5 stars.

The Wonder Births team are amazing. We had a 110% positive experience delivering our first child with their support and we cannot recommend them highly enough.

We primarily worked with Gem (with awesome support from Dewi and Alexia as well!). Gem was very intentional in learning about my wife and I, understanding our priorities for the birth, identifying issues we maybe hadn’t thought of and questions we still needed to answer, then using her expertise to weave that all together into a plan that addressed the medical, physical, emotional, and logistical aspects of our delivery. Beyond these practical items, Gem helped us learn more about the pregnancy and delivery process, including our son’s experience through it all. I appreciated her efforts to help my wife and I work as a team to prepare for and manage the delivery - I certainly was better prepared to support my wife based on Gem’s guidance. My wife also really enjoyed and benefited from the antenatal physio work with Dewi. On delivery day, Gem’s commitment to supporting my wife in early labor and all of us at the hospital was really really impressive.

My wife and I started the process thinking of the delivery mostly as a medical procedure that we hoped would go well. After working with Gem, we also got to experience it as a fun and really special challenge that we’ll look back on fondly. Having a kid is obviously a very personal and emotional experience - Gem never once imposed her own priorities or pushed us in a direction that wasn’t right for us. She took an active role when needed, stepped back to let my wife and I have our special moments, and struck that balance exactly right. She also worked in a few personal touches throughout, some big and some small, that we really appreciated it.

Gem and the Wonder Births team are super organized, positive, warm, communicative, and professional without being impersonal. I struggle to think of anything they could’ve done better and we are grateful they were part of our son’s birth. 10/5 stars, if we could.

I cannot thank Gem enough for the incredible support, guidance, and warmth she provided throughout my childbirth experience. From our very first meeting, she made me feel at ease and confident in my ability to bring my baby into the world.

During labor, Gem was an unwavering source of comfort and encouragement, offering helpful techniques and suggestions to manage my pain and keep me focused. She was also an invaluable advocate for my wishes and helped ensure that my birth plan was respected.

After my baby was born, Gem continued to provide support, checking in frequently to offer advice and resources as I adjusted to life with a newborn. I truly believe that her expertise and compassionate care played a critical role in making my childbirth experience a positive and empowering one.

I wholeheartedly recommend Gem to any expectant parent seeking a knowledgeable, compassionate, and supportive guide through the journey of childbirth.

  • Joan X, VBAC mama of 2

Having Gem as our doula was, without a doubt, the best decision we made for the birth of our second child.

In the lead up to birth, she helped to prepare me mentally, physically and emotionally. Her calm, warm and straightforward demeanour set my husband and I at ease from the outset. In the labour ward, her presence was so reassuring as she advocated for me and provided unwavering encouragement to both my husband and I through a very long labour. I am pretty sure I would not have had a successful VBAC without her in my corner!

After birth, she even gave us the most touching account of the birth which we will cherish forever. We are so grateful to you, Gem! ❤️

Once we read more about Doulas and learned that they existed in Singapore, we knew we wanted to have this type of support throughout our own pregnancy journey. We couldn't have chosen better than Gem. From the first prenatal visit, she was so friendly and warm - we instantly felt some of our anxieties melt away as she was able to answer our questions and help us feel confident and empowered in planning our desired home birth experience. She made us feel so comfortable like an old friend. Jump forward to the day of labour itself. Our birth was extremely quick and not at all what we expected. Amid all the chaos, Gem was such a force for calmness and this really helped me to relax so that I could deliver our LO. We couldn’t have asked for anything more and we feel so lucky to have crossed paths with Gem. Post-birth, she helped us to perfect latching so that we could be more comfortable breastfeeding and she was available and willing to provide advice to any questions we had as first time parents. We looked forward to her visits and we were really sad to have them come to an end. Rest assured, choosing Gem as your Doula will be one of the best decisions you make.

From the very first time I met Gem, I felt her strong but gentle presence. We had two prenatal sessions with her and each time, she answered all our queries with confidence and calmness. Our daughter was not in an optimal position as we approached close to our due date. Gem was extremely supportive by suggesting to us various things we can try at home to get labour going. On the day of labour, it was her calm and composed presence that helped me remain calm myself. What stood our for me is how she reminded me to breathe through my nose when I was in active labour. Her voice and tone in which she said it made me feel that I got this! Up to today, whenever I get anxious looking after my little one, remembering those moments in active labour and how I got through it with her support reminds me that I equally got this! If anyone wants to feel empowered as a mom, Gem is the one to go to!

Thank you so much, Gem, for giving us a pleasant and natural birth experience. We are truly blessed to have you support us as we welcome our daughter into the world.

  • Huey Ching, mama of 2

I had a fair amount of anxiety going into my 2nd pregnancy and child birth, hence my husband and I decided to seek support from a doula. We were really lucky to meet and work with Gem. From the beginning, she was empathetic, listened to our concerns and offered advice without judgement.

I was induced for my 1st birth hence had a completely different i.e. highly medicated experience. This time round, though labour was longer than anticipated, we genuinely enjoyed the entire process. With Gem’s help, I felt calm and aware the entire time, filled with positive thoughts of baby’s arrival. She was incredibly sensitive, knew when to distract me and when to encourage me to power through labour pains.

We had the drug free birth we wanted - I felt fully alert and aware when baby arrived, recovery was much faster and I’m enjoying the 4th trimester much more in comparison to first time round. All this we credit to Gem.

    Thank you for everything, Gem!

  • Dini & Ben, parents of 1 human and 1 cat

Hiring Gem was probably one of the top 10 decisions we made as a couple!

As first time parents, anxiety, fear, excitement and confusion all crossed both of our mind. Hiring a doula was not part of our birth plan at first. We went into our first phone interview with Gem with a mixture of doubt and curiously. When the video call started and I was taken back by her age. I guess my notion of a doula was someone middle aged with many kids in order to be a doula. As we started our conversation, she felt more of a friend then someone we plan to hire to help delivery our first child. There was something claiming about Gem voice and behavior that offered trust and reassurance.

During the day of the delivery, if our doctor was the coach, Gem was the star player on the team. She knew I wanted to be involve on the day of the delivery and she guided me every step of the way. At the same time, she ensured my wife kept her focus during each painful contraction and stayed comfortable as possible during the labor process. Lastly, once the baby arrived, what I really appreciated was her extra focus on the mental health of my wife and I. During the first few weeks of post birth, her simple text messages to check-in on us was so critical.

My wife and I would highly recommend Gem to any of our family and friends if they ever needed a doula. I cannot picture what our birth experience would be like without the support, professionalism and the kind heart of Gem Tan.

We know she just started on her career as a doula but the future is bright for her. To Gem, we want to say THANK YOU for all the small detailed things you did for us ( its the little things that matters) and we wish you nothing but great success

  • Josie, mama of 3, including twins

Gem is an amazing human being! She was our doula for our 2nd birth - we had twin boys guided and supported by Gem at Gleneagles.

We also did private lessons with her in our home. She’s really great! Supportive, kind, gentle. Knowing that we have our older daughter as well, she brought a doll baby specially for her so she could teach her how to change a diaper and get her to participate in our birth preparation.

During the birth, Gem worked tirelessly with us for more than 12 hours. She pretty much massaged my back continuously the whole time as I had back contractions and she knew how painful they were for me. I don’t know how she does it!

She also listens to and respects what we want and doesn’t apply pressure at all. For example we wanted an epidural and she supported us until we were ready to get one. After the epidural she continued to guide and support us as well.

After labour, she followed up regularly with us and dropped us tips on breastfeeding and caring for our babies.

She is truly a Godsend and we are so thankful and grateful that she was there for one of the most important, tough but beautiful moment of our lives, and she made it better.

My husband is also truly grateful, which is why we came back to four trimesters for our 2nd birth after having a great experience with our first 7 years ago.

Thank you Gem! The work you do is incredible.

  • Kirsty, mummy of 3

Gem was our doula for our 3rd baby. Although seasoned parents we had yet to achieve the home birth that we had always wanted, having had 2 previous difficult and highly medicalised births in the UK. From the first meeting with her she believed in our ability to achieve the birth we wanted, she listened with kindness and huge empathy and made me feel safe, empowered and full of self belief.

During the birth she created an environment for our whole family that meant that I could feel safe and calm knowing my other two children were right there with us. With her gentle, respectful encouragement and her brilliant knowledge of the birthing process our baby boy was born as planned, in the bath, with no major medical intervention. A total contrast to our other two birth experiences and one that has been profoundly healing. We will be forever grateful for knowing Gem and having her as our birth doula

  • Meghal, mama of 1

Out of all the things my husband and I can recommend in terms of preparing for first time birth is to have a doula by your side. Gem exceeded all of our expectations! The support she provided made me feel so comfortable and confident enough to go through with my desire to have a pleasurable unmedicated birth. What stands out in Gem is how extremely calm and composed she is in all situations. At one point where the labor pain got uncontrollable, Gem coached me with controlled breathing and kept telling me I was doing great. Couldn't have done any of it without her. Oh and not to forget the mental and emotional support she extended to me in my 4th trimester with breastfeeding. Her timely check-ins and reminders made us feel less lost in our new roles as parents. Cannot recommend her enough to our family and friends. You will find a good friend in Gem as your doula who just 'gets you' without any judgements.

Grateful to you, dear Gem. Abhi and I wish you the best of everything in life. Lots of love and blessings 💟

  • Valerie, mummy of 1

Throughout this pregnancy, we had been “training” both physically and mentally. Attending the Four Trimesters antenatal classes and having Gem as our doula were instrumental in our preparations.

I had an incredible first-time birth experience with no epidural or other drugs. The breathing exercises, positioning and Gem’s calming presence ensured that I laboured mostly in the comfort of our own home. By the time we got to the hospital I was almost fully dilated and our baby arrived after a couple of hours. It was amazing to find that my body was able to cope just using all the techniques I had learnt. I could only have got through it thanks to my husband and Gem’s support at every single moment.

Giving birth has been an incredibly empowering experience for me. Not because of the outcome of the birth or method of delivery — but because I was totally aware of what was happening, knew the consequences of any decisions, and felt I had the tools to deal with whatever happened. I started out this pregnancy knowing nothing but hearsay and Hollywood, received many conflicting advice, and emerged the other side feeling so much more empowered. Thank you Gem and the team at Four Trimesters for helping me in this journey!

  • Laura, mummy of 1

Gem was our wonderful doula for birth and post-partum support. Her kind, reassuring and patient nature really helped us achieve the birth we desired. She instilled a lot of confidence in me which helped me to achieve my drug-free birth. She's extremely knowledgeable and provided so much hands on support. Without her, I'm not sure my son would have turned in to an optimal position. When we bought our son home, we were extremely anxious and distressed as first time parents and felt completely out of our depth. Gem really came to our rescue and pulled us out of the trenches. You won't regret engaging Gem, she truly is one ❤️. Thank you so much for everything. Big love and hugs from Laura, Gad and Christian.

  • HJ, mama of 8

It was our first time experience with Gem as our doula and she surely made a world of difference to the whole experience and we really enjoyed her company during the whole journey. As a no epidural natural delivery, without her help, I probably opted for the epidural. We are very pleased how hands on and comforting she was during the entire process and afterwards as well. Thank you Gem!

  • Drina, VBAC mama of 2

Gem was our doula for birth support. Her calm and reassuring voice allowed me to focus on one contraction at time and allowed me to achieve the vbac that I wanted. Her constant assurance allowed me to believe that I could do it and that I just have to give baby time and space to move downwards and that this birth is not and will not be like my last birth.

We wouldn’t have been able to do this without her knowledge on contraction patterns and her hands on help with OMP exercises. And without this immense help which she has provided, I don’t believe we could have gotten baby into an optimal position for birthing.

Even after birth, she was constantly checking in on us to ensure that we were doing ok.

Thank you Gem for all your amazing help!

    With lots of love,

    Drina, Khairul and Alyssa

  • Elisa, mama of 1

Gem was our doula for the birth of our daughter. As a first time mom, I had taken the time to learn as much as I could at Four Trimester's antenatal classes. When the opportunity came up to have Gem assist us following doctor's orders for an induction (which we did not opt for) at the last minute, we were ecstatic but also not sure what to expect given Covid restrictions. We met Gem via Zoom just a few hours before our induction admittance time and went over our birth plans and our concerns for the delivery.

She was present via Whatsapp (!) throughout our 12-hour labour. Through text with my husband and occasional "regroup" calls, she guided us through the navigation of the hospital restrictions, deciphered my contraction data and walked us through OMP exercises we needed to complete to make every contraction bearable and progressive. She advised us on each procedure offered by the medical team, and strategized with us to ensure we were getting the birth experience we wanted.

I had strict deadlines for dilation which would take us on the c-sect route if labour didn't progress, and I didn't have any plans aside from following Gem's guidance. Her step-by-step instructions allowed us to focus on one exercise at a time, one contraction at a time. Her factual, non-judgmental information on each pain relief option I considered during painful contractions (believe me I went through each one), made me feel supported whichever way I chose -- which helped me to persist on the mental game.

Gem was truly a blessing whose presence allowed us to have the unmedicated vaginal birth we wanted. Not only that - the birth was extra amazing because my husband was 100% an active participant in the labour, discussing on the Whatsapp group and supporting me through every exercise as prescribed by Gem. When we heard baby scream, we knew we did it together -- and that we probably wouldn't have been able to do it without Gem with us.
